I’d love to visit your school or book club/writers group! To discuss options that best suit your needs, please fill out the simple form below. For requests from the U.S. and abroad, the Author Village facilitates my visits.
*If you prefer a Skype session, please indicate so and I will accommodate your request at a different rate than my regular booking fees.
Some information on what I can offer when I visit:
If you’re teaching one of my books and would like me to visit your class to discuss themes, inspiration, and/or answer student questions, I’m available to present and expand on topics in an in-depth fashion. Alternatively, I can also conduct workshops on voice and character development and/or other aspects of creative writing.
In addition to talking about my YA novels, Saints and Misfits and Love from A to Z, I also offer presentations to high school classes interested in discussing creative writing, the writing process and/or author life.
Besides writing teen fiction, I’m also a picture book author, with a background in elementary education (focused on second graders), so I really enjoy visiting and talking to primary classes. In my presentations geared to younger students, I help children discover the topics they would like to write about, the ideas they want to share with the world, the part of themselves that they feel go unnoticed — a powerful motivator for writing their authentic selves. I go over my process discovering what I want to say as an author and then do imaginative exercises with students so they can tap into their own creative voices. My focus is on inspiring students to see themselves as creators — something that comes easily to me as an arts-based educator of over twenty years.
Please note: If you would like to book me for a workshop-type session, in the interest of ensuring student success, I prefer to work with one class at a time (or groups of students). The fees are different for this type of presentation.
I’m always happy to talk books with readers! We can discuss one or all of my books or address specific topics/questions from book club members.
If your writing group would like to chat with me about the writing process, my route to publishing or any part of the author journey, I’m available! Just let me know what you’re looking for by filling out the form below and you’ll get a reply from my assistant to work out details.
Thank you and hoping to connect with you/your students soon to bring alive the love of reading, individual expression and creative confidence!
